Psychosexual Development Exploration
I have thought long and hard as to whether call this section Gender and LGBTQ+ issues and I eventually decided against it because sexual orientation and gender identity are 2 strands of of every child's psychosexual development.

During my training, I remember a very animated debate held around the need for us to undergo specific training for certain groups and our tutor reminding us that once someone enters the therapy room, we are trained and expected to see them in their uniqueness. My approach is to focus on the intrapsychic and strip away societal labels in the therapy room.
I never assume that a gender identy or a sexual orientation choice is an issue per se. 90 % of people consulting for sex therapy fall within the heterosexual, binary identity and yet they are suffering in their intimacy. I am here to listen to the suffering in the intimacy not the normative idea of sexuality. This is a person-centered approach which I hope fosters trust and opens the door for authentic exploration and healing.
